QoL bug (disconnects when you drop dirt)

Postby Fostik » Sun Apr 21, 2019 7:25 pm

Looks like server disconects me, when i am doing requests too often, with lot of actions.
But i am doing this without any bots, or something else.
So there's reproduction steps:
1. Stand near dirt stockpile
2. Ctrl + alt + right click on item inside stockpile window
3. Ctrl + alt + right click on dirt inside inventory

As there are always same keys, and windows are really close - i can do it so fast, so server sometimes disconnects me.
Can it be fixed somehow? I am not doing nothing bad.

This also used to happen if you held down a combat key, or any key, for a length of time but I think most clients fixed that to limit how many times it sends to the server now.

Also I don't think it's a "bug" per se, but a feature of the server to prevent people from spamming it with actions.

Not a bug. This is intended behaviour.

If you spam the server with requests, it will assume you are a DDoSer and disconnect you. Just live through with it, I guess. Nothing too painful either, I keep getting the same disconnects and it's mostly fine.

You can also do that by quickly opening containers.
Reduce the speed of your actions a bit and you're good.

Really? The solution that all of you have is to 'just play the game slower"??

What is wrong with you people. This guy is using features avaliable on the default client, without scripts or macros, and is getting kicked from the server for it. Does that not make sense that this shouldn't happen? Valid bug.

Loftar could easily increase the limit to be more forgiving, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he reached this current value for a reason. Ignoring the limit based on the particular server call seems like a messy system to implement as well, but it's annoying in its current state for sure. Boshaw already touched on it, but this same system will disconnect you from default client if you hold down an attack move in combat.

This can be fixed easily by adding a bit more smart rate limiting, no excuses.

Is he? I test the standard client out a good bit, and I dont' recall a "drop all" key chord. Maybe i've just missed it? I tend to forget which keys do what in whatever client I'm using because I'm that absent-minded that I forget which client I'm using at the moment.

No, for real, "not a bug" sounds really weird.
This is like when you will walk in park in real life, and for some moment you will see a part of environment full of curcuits that not yet loaded, and when you will try to explain someone you saw - people will say: "Not a bug, it was thursday and you was in the sneakers while it was cloudy."
Im okay if devs will have no time for that, it's just QoL i can really do without it, but dont say 'not a bug'

It's not a bug as it was explicitely added to deal with people who knowingly ran code that brought the server to a crawl for everyone, IIRC.
