So i get the

A siege engine has recently been activated close to this village.

message, and the show siege engines option(idk if its available in default client) points me to the wball that i've set up 1000 units away from my claim on some other village.
If i dissasemble it the alert is gone so im sure thats the one causing the message.

wball causing the notification was 9 grids away on SOMEONEELSE claim

i guess you can just consider it a decent warning that siege activity is happening in your area so you can respond thusly

I would say the message is still fairly accurate. 'close to this village.'
