Bug 1 - invincible catapult.

How to do it - build road, build cata at destination point, lay logs, roadjump knarr.
You can't reach cata, you can't destroy knarr, you can't move knarr.

Bug 2. Wait 24h with invincible cata and shot into palisade. You don't need battering ram at all:

Not sure it's completely invincible, I assume it still can be destroyed by archery towers?

Did I ever mentioned how towers should work? You call it invincible but it's not, there is a feature bug that allows you to block approach to siege engine, that's it.

actually in this case... if he built walls CLOSER to water it would have been better because then an archery tower would have worked right? the issue is only if your walls far enough away from the water that tower cant reach and they can build a catapult

Knarr will be parked near location where your pali turns from water - no any difference.
