I'm attempting to convert cast iron to bloom/dross. I did several cycles, watching carefully and removing the product when ready, adding more coal and cast iron without letting the fire go out. (I'm being frugal with matches.) This worked several times in a row. But now it gets to about 2 1/2 minutes until done, counts down towards 2 minutes, then pops back up to 2 1/2 or a bit more. It's been doing this for at least 5 minutes (timed with a kitchen timer), probably at least twice that (I was slow to notice and start an external timer.)
I still have 1 unit of fuel left in the crucible. I'm unclear if it's been in this loop long enough that this fuel should have been used up, or if it'll eventually use up the fuel and get out of the loop, leaving my cast iron with approx 2 1/2 minutes left to go.
One possibly relevant circumstance: I usually added fuel early keeping at least 1 unit at all times. But one time I got distracted, and added fuel at what seemed like the very last minute - the UI looked like 0 fuel. But the time-to-go numbers kept cycling, so I figured I'd got it just in time. OTOH, there's no smoke coming out of the forge, and hasn't been since that maybe near miss. (Was there before? I think so, but I wasn't paying attention.)
This might be a custom client bug - I'm using Ender. Maybe I didn't get the fuel into the forge in time but the silly client kept cycling its time remaining numbers, and noticing something was fubared only every half minute or so when it checked with the server. But the numbers and part-done highlghting did make significant progress after the error. (I'm not even sure my last minute fueling happened on this current load of iron, rather than the one before.)
I haven't (yet) tried the effect of logging out, or even of ceasing to monitor progress - nor yet of relighting the forge. (And that's why I haven't tried the official client either.)
