Not sure if I agree with OP or not. Just posting because this thread made me laugh! :lol:

Apparently male animals will 'target' a female and soft aggro, attempting to path to her every few seconds. So when you open a gate between 2 herds, you have less than a second to close it before breeding occurs.
The first time my stallion did this, he bolted. I freaked out because I thought it had aggro'd on an AFK villager. Turns out he was just ready to give someone -- *ahem* -- a stern talking-to.
