QoL: Add items to containers without opening them

Postby Granger » Sun May 21, 2017 11:22 am

Simple QoL suggestion to let us add items to containers the same way we can add them to stockpiles:

Have an item on the cursor, shift+RMB to move this into the container clicked onto (if inventory space in it is available) same as adding fuel to lightable.
Preferably this plus shift+alt+RMB (or another sane key modifyer combination) which would move all of that kind.

This would complement the ability to shift+RMB to pull stuff from a container without the need to open it, which should be changed to shift+RMB pulling one and shift+alt+RMB pulling a full inventory.

New content burns out quickly, QoL is eternal.

I find myself trying to do this from time to time, thinking that it's odd that it doesn't work. This small change would give better consistency to how players interact with the world.

Often want to drop bucket with water or flour into a chest after filling it from a barrel.

While you're at it, let me dump containers into other containers. When upgrading from crates to wooden chests, dear lord the micromanagement is a pain.

IIRC the reason we're not doing this already is that it potentially conflicts with the normal use case of hold + right-click to interact with something, or, for example, adding coal to a burner.

FYI: This has become a bit better with the ability to open containers with an item on the cursor, nevertheless it would be nice as it would cut clicks and mouse mileage that add nothing to the depth of the game.
