Scents always visible, restrict tracking instead

Title, If there's a scent it should be always be visible if tracking is toggled on, but trying to collect one with insufficient Perception*Exploration should result in something along the lines of "your tracking skills are insufficient to get a clue of this scent."

Root problem this suggestion is addressing: Over the recent year or two, there has been like a dozen bug reports about stuff disappearing that could be explained by someone having bashed said stuff, but because the owner of the stuff can't see any scents, they rightfully assume it may have been a bug. Recent example.

+1 for sure, maybe the scent could even actually be picked up but it's blank and nameless, but still gives you discovery

This raises a question on whether or not such scent should be able to be used to summon a Nidbane. I know they're currently quite irrelevant, but still a matter of contention I'd wager.

If it's a "blank" scent I would definitely suspect no since it would be completely pointless

however, I can see this opening up a possibility of new mechanics, like stationary guard nidbanes? :lol: although I doubt such a thing would ever be implemented

Quite meaningless change as the game already provides massive advantage to the strong players, but should be done still.

It seems like you simply failed to read or understand the reason.
I don't believe that this proposal is meant to shift any balance between weak and strong, it's simply meant to deter people from asking stupid questions. Every time a wall breaks down there shouldn't be an inquiry in to whether or not a game mechanic is broken, it stands to reason that a hearthling should be able to tell if it was intentionally broken in to, even if they are unable to tell who did it.

i like poof topics about snekjas horses & houses. -1 (also someth broken with animals now: even without visitior debuff i cant slaughter/ride it on claim)
if naked alts could see all scents its only need to bring explorer at place. but if no scents seen no point to track someone...
for ex.: if i bash pali with 2222INT * 555STEALTH i dont wanna every naked alt.char could breach pali while it drys. (so i dont wanna defend against naked alts 3d)
stealth almost useless dont make it worse!

Stealth is PRETTY GOOD in a lot of situations even if all it does is scale up the tracking vector, and decrease the number of charges per scent. I remember Jorb asking on stream if it was good, and everybody said no... In my experience it's arguably OP due to the formula they use scaling so well.

It seems pretty reasonable to me that a fresh spawn could see that a crime has been committed without the ability to actually track the perpetrator. Though, I would miss bashing people's things and giggling like a school girl when I see the bug reports of missing buildings/docks/snekkjas/etc.
