catapults and watchtowers

Postby evangili » Wed Oct 07, 2015 8:16 pm

catapults=large siege machines that can destroy LAND from big distance (need some hours for the glue to set)
why? simple, making siege possible. with catapults u destroy the crop production and stockpiles, chest and basically, food. houses and buildings can be reinforced with metal (new tech) that stop them from being harmed from catapults.

watchtower: do I need to explain this? :P

note: catapults can be destroyed by hand = the defender has got chances to destroy catapult before or after the glue has set.

What would watch towers do exactly, mechanically?

Enable archers to shoot over their wall defense. That was kinda obvious m8.

While catapults is arguable, watchtowers is a must. However, I'd make the person on a watchtower also reachable by archers that are outside, though with some little more protection.

"watch" tower typically means a tall slender building from which you can actually see a great deal from. otherwise it would just be a guard tower, and only useful for defense.

sorry for my english, i meant guard tower thanks for the correction :)
and yes, i agree that people in guard towers can be hit by others, guard towers shoot over walls and have a bonus at marksmanship (cant be used for crafting though).
but with guard towers it will be difficult to siege smne so it would be nice to make catapults viable too (remember u can build catapults IN village to destroy enemy'ones.)

So you want a ranged weapon that can not only affect walls but people and other siege weapons. Be careful that Pandora's box you wish to open. :)

That's typically what catapults and ballistas were used for when mounted on top of guard towers in medieval times... counter-siege. Hence why they then developed trebuchets to stay further away from the counter siege.

Towers could be interesting, coming in wooden and stone varieties. Wooden being easier, stone being able to support 'siege equipment'.

Trebuchets was being used as counter siege too. They just needed damn big towers for that.

But staying on topic, introduction of catapults I guess would bring massive amount of problems, bugs, ways to abuse and whines following that. Pretty sure this development time could be spent somewhere else, like water physics, or... fixing issue, letting chickens being fed with earthworms.
