Tar Kilns Have Poor Click Economy

Postby TeckXKnight » Thu Sep 10, 2015 6:10 am

Loading 80 wood blocks per tar kiln 3 times per day is killer. There needs to be a way to load them in with fewer clicks, such as shift + mousewheel. Alternatively, or do both, increase the time that each wood block burns for and reduce the total fuel load. Even with using shift + right click it is excessive in its current state.

While pick log right click kiln would be great I think it would conflict with the quality system, still make it happen somehow.

How so? Blocks are always the quality of the tree they come from. No effect from tool Q or anything.

Another issue is that not all logs are made equal. Some logs, such as Linden, yield somewhere between 40-50 blocks. Meanwhile trees like Cherry yield ~12 blocks.

The server knows how many blocks are in the log, so it could check if that would not fit into the tar kiln an refuse to put in the log. Or just discard the overflow like with blocks and fireplaces.

That'd be neat, yeah.

For people with wrist issues, shift+mousewheel is just as bad as shift + clicks btw. More finger motion = bad, and mouse wheel motions don't tend to be effecient on motion to actions done.

What about a load option that draws from nearby stockpiles like a building does? Shift+right click stockpiles after cutting an entire log down is fairly tolerable, since the game picks all the stuff up and puts it all in per inventory load. Naturally a "stockpile everything on the ground" option would be even better, but I'm content with its current state.
