Make an item or skill that allows you to combine various different types of food items from different food groups into unique "meals" that combine the properties of the food involved, however with slightly less FEP, slightly less hunger and slightly less energy consumed than if you ate them independently. The upside is the combination food could be part of two or more food groups, therefore helping out your food diversity while not trashing your FEPs or requiring you to waste hunger.
This would make it easier to work towards a certain one or two stats and to help diversity by combining foods you want with things like mushrooms, berries, pies, and others rather that eating 27 steaks in a row to get a str FEP. It can also be used to combine high energy foods with foods that have the FEP you actually want. There could also be unique hidden recipes that give more FEPs than the ingredients involved and have a unique name. It would be similar to a crafting recipe, but hidden and requiring more effort to make.
