I would suggest you modify the subscriptions so that they can run in parallel, giving the ability to concurrent logins up to the amount of active subscriptions you have.
When buying a subscription there simply should be a choice:
- activate the subscription instantly, giving parallel logins
- delay activation until a current subscription runs out (keeping the amount of parallel subscriptions at a constant level)
In case a subscription runs out one login is kicked if active_logins < active_subscriptions and no delayed ones are waiting.
Make that deterministic please (oldest or youngest login, just announce it visibly enough).
This would also enable a customer to add a slot for a shorter timespan than the length of the currently running subscription, and it would keep the main point of subscription tiers (giving additional money for no additional benefit apart from the ability to show off through hats) preserved.
Open question would be if to allow drawing from free game time of an account for additional logins (or in case the single subscription runs out).
PS: OP would result in a price reduction after the fact, not cool for everyone who already bought something.
