Also I've said before, not sure if its in this post or another, that I suffered myself the same fate last world.
this can only happen either when the recruiter in charge is careless or when the spy is very dedicated and well-played. the last raid was both. the spy was pretty good with detailed info, the recruiter was absolutely careless not to do the background check at all (you usually dont trust self-claiming ex villager when you don't remember the person at all, besides if the person in question mentioned someone's name, you are supposed to ask that person to vouch for him/her to check facts) and if you are talking about betrayal, there is no way you can stop anyone to betray you by a system other than your own efforts for relationships, and even then, your real life friend who happened to see you playing could sell you for whatever reason (which ive witnessed happen before to the biggest faction here). devs have also implemented cairn system for multiple village permissions to better deal with it too, but RL somehow failed to make use of it anyways.
that said, the real issue is that the attackers always tend to be a lot more dedicated than the defenders are. the more defenders cry without dedicating half of what attackers have done and only ask for certain mechanics, it will only help make the attackers safer because they will of course protect their place the same way you can or even better and the revenge wont happen.
i personally have certain suggestions on cairn mechanics, but since im no raider and dont have enough experience with the cairn functions yet to be convincing enough to explain so far.
