Mail Box System?

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

Mail Box System?

Postby kingwint1992 » Mon Apr 25, 2016 11:16 pm

Hey guys so I had this idea about like a mailing system, here's my thoughts.

So basically it would be a mail box, something you could build in game, and with a mail box you could send items to another person through it with a postage stamp (I was thinking for the stamps they could be sold in the store for a small price, and have varying stamps, like one for just a package, lets say, 10 spaces, or one for a container, which could be like a cupboard worth of things and they would vary in price) and the mail boxes would have "passwords" on them to link them, similar to like a wilderness beacon or charter stones.

Now idk how hard it would be to make the trading real time, like you put in your items and you can see the other person put in their items as well, then be able to confirm the trade, that may be much harder to do then it sounds. But another thing I was thinking was that the trade wouldn't be instant, it would calculate how long it would take to travel in boat speed in a straight line to the other mailbox (could possibly be calculated per minimap tile)

Anyway, this is just an idea, so basically if someone wanted to remove the risk of leaving their base they could trade safely from behind their walls, (at least items that can be put into containers) it would just be an optional thing people could spend money on which helps out the Devs, and if people are willing to shell out the cash, keeps them/their valuables safe from robbery on the road.

Let me know what you guys think, and feel free to add your own ideas to it!

What if we could train rabbit/squirrels to carry objects to a destination instead of some teleportation system via mailboxes?

Gives a way to send items without risking yourself but the items still have a risk of not making it if someone finds and kills your carrier!

I do not think less reason to leave behind wall is good for the game.

I like your Idea Bosh I had a similar thought run through my mind, but i thought of a nidbane mail man xd.

And your are very right Ysh, but at the same time it could help pad jorb and loftars pockets a little more and help out with the development to boot! and maybe with a possible way to intercept, it would still give it a bit of risk but not nearly as much as going out on your own and being spotted on an alt boating around. Could be a more subtle carrier, that wont show up on the min-map, and is pretty damn quick, so you kinda have to be luck to have it cross your path and then it would be very hard to stop, say, it doesn't collide with anything, maybe a harrier pigeon?

If people have to travel to trade, they'll do it on a naked alt anyways.

Items will still leave base. Players will still be interacting.

Right now we are using crates/chests for this idea in the village lol. Be nice to have something that looks like a mailbox though...

I think this idea makes more sense than ever now that people are separated by continents. Getting to a market on the other side of the world will be a huuge pain.

People could claim mailboxes and send carrier animals (pigeons, maybe?) to deliver small items to other mailboxes within a few days.

You should also be able to kill these animals like nidbanes while they are on their journey.

Agreed. Pigeon/Falcon quality could make them harder to kill. Killing them should count as theft, though.
