Bandit's mask should help protect against coaler's cough

Postby jordancoles » Sat Jun 09, 2018 9:23 pm

It sucks to be mining along on your day off only to hit a patch of coal, get the wound and then have to stop until it goes away. It'd be nice to have somewhat of a safety net or protection from it.

Needing theiving to wear it doesn't make much sense for a miner, I know, but it's currently the only face mask we have and I guess it would encourage more diversity in character building and adds a bit more investment to miner characters

+1 for Concept, but like above, would prefer a new item rather than repurposing an old one.

Bumping this thread again because we need a decent way to mine coal again or treat the wounds because in my opinion they are too severe to do any significant amount of mining. Today mining a 30 tile long tunnel i got 25 26 28 damage and to a character that has 1000 hp that is still to much because i need to keep a certain level to deal with slimes as well. were basically being forced to either use mass tar kilns or mine until were low on hp and log out in a bed for a week or more. Before anyone says smoke opium, i tried that as well recently and spending 3 hours smoking barely making a dent in a 170 cough is not "fun".

Next world this is going to be a nightmare unless something is done, as we will be at 100-300 hp when we hit lvl 2 to start mining and a few hits of this and your basically out of the game and may as well make suicide mining alts. if anything adding a medicine that speeds up healing but leaves a negative effect is preferable over spending hours smoking, say a tea that has to be taken and only works if you sleep in a bed and leaves a mark of weariness that reduces stats.

Coaler's Cough protection/healing option

Postby Undefined » Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:57 pm

Seriously, this wound is worse than getting cancer.
So you find a nice coal node, get starting digging and within 3-4 stockpiles you've taken up half your life in a cough wound. Ouch, that sucks, I'll just find a way to heal, oh the only way is to smoke opium you say? I'll wait the 2 weeks for it heal naturally thanks.
It's a horrible wound, pretty soon into the game coal you've discovered underground will be replaced with coal you've made yourself anyway, I don't see the need for something like this to cap your metal production. Masonry alts seem to be the only way. I'd suggest some form of simple prevention such as a face mask or even just a miner's helmet failing that, at least a more achievable way to heal the wound once you've got it... Hell tie it into the, awfully mandatory, credo system if it comes to it, miner credo = much reduced damage from mining coal. Just any sort of option would be nice.

Thanks for the link. Threads merged. An idea worthy of a bump, I think.

i would rather have an extra face slot just for all sort of masks.
