I remember Ultima had a 5 minute logout timer where the character would remain in the game if you did not quit while at your home, a friend's home, a campfire, or an inn. I think the main point was to prevent instantly logging out from another player in a potential PvP scenario but perhaps there were other reasons too I can't recall with certainty.
That's not really practical of course given that server/game crashes, loss of internet, disconnects, real life stuff, etc. can occur, although those were all concerns back then as well. This game also has hearthing and I'm not really sure which is quite faster, the logout timer or the hearth timer or are they the same. I suppose mechanics such as those are part of a bygone era in MMO games anyways but who knows maybe one day claims will have more specific details associated with their usage like designating Inn/Taverns with set permission levels for others to make use of, or something like that.
