WASD Movement (Not totally a suggestion)

Postby Soukuw » Fri Nov 22, 2024 7:40 am

Mostly just curious if anyone could give me insight on why this would be a terrible idea. I know some hotkeys use WASD but those of course could be changed.

On a technical level I assume it would make stuff far heavier on the server.

Does anyone else have other technical/gameplay ideas why WASD movement would be hard or impossible to implement? Also any reasons why it would make the game worse?

edit: I've reached my 1 idea per night so I'm putting this here: Mailbox should be used for offline PMs

I mean, custom clients have had it in the past. Depending how the walk command is coded it doesn't even have to cost more server load than the average spam clicker. When W is pressed click 500 units ahead, re-issue if you get to 500 or issue a stop if the W is lifted.

Salem had it and it had like a 400+ ms delay on every key press, but it was still useful for navigating tight corridors in dungeons/your base so i'd still say +1
Total misplay.
