If you're lazy... maybe make jars much bigger and fix the "missing brine at the end". Instead of 1x2 make them 2x4 and the inventory inside 6x6. Scale their cost accordingly and voila!

It won't fix everything but it will be quicker than a whole new concept with a barrel-like object.
