Whaling sucks, it's just a mindless activity for bots or alts. I still have flashbacks before the orca / whales FEPs were nerfed: if you wanted to have good stats then you had to hunt whales a lot.

The whale cycle looked like that:
- Whales are OP and spawn randomly, everyone looks for them
- Whales no longer spawn randomly (barnackles were introduced), it's still an OP food but time-wise, you're better off making cheeses and sausages, unless you happen to find barnacles on your port
- Whales no longer spawn randomly and they're a shit-tier food. Same for orcas. This is where we are now, no sane person hunts them when you already have the gildings and the whaler jacket. Seals, walruses and crabs are also kind of useless now.

Ocean is empty, because it was nerfed multiple times to the point that it's useless, apart from being an early world barrier. It should be buffed / expanded instead. For example, what's the point of the small birdy Islands, if the birds are completely useless? Why would I bother killing walruses or pelicans, or why would I ever want to collect the sea sponges? Pointless activities.
