Sweeet sugar

I think you should add sweet beets, witch in turn you can boil to sugar. And with sugar you could make tons of stuff like lingonberry jam mabey.

Sweet beets are already in game as a food item, if you didn't know. Unless you mean adding a separate item for processing sugar.

Sugar could be a cool addition.

Technically speaking, sweet beets are a separate species. The game using them as a name for a food item is either a coincidence or intentional XD

I don't think sugar fits the time period/motif of the game. We already have honey that acts as a sweetener and a couple sweetened items which use it as such.

I mean, as a Canadian, I'd clearly rather see maple syrup in game instead of sugar anyway :D

Oh yes, Sugar was very common in the iron age, and widely distributed for those wealthy enough to obtain it. You're likely thinking about the fact that we consider sugar a 'new world' item, which it is most decidedly not.

I'm going to apply the concept of "motif" to this as I said. We have no trading partners from mesopotamia or the mediteranean sea. The culture we live in is essentially insular germanic tribes, effectively cut off in contact from the rest of the world. Cane sugar was not grown up in germany, therefore it's valid to say it doesn't fit the time period/motif since there's no NPC trading that happens.

That being said, we already have several violations of this concept including silk. I guess my personal desire is to not add more.

I like that Haven is not a theme park game like WoW, with content appealing to many cultures from all kinds of time periods. The setting here I suppose takes in dark/medieval ages, somewhere in central/north Europe. Even spread of Christianity and feudalism didn't touched these tribes, so I guess it's like 600-900 years after Christ. So no gunpowder, no potatoes, no tomatoes, no beans, no nigger slaves, trading with East is very limited with traderoutes going mostly on land.

So how does sugar refining process from carefully selected beets should fit here, which was widely spread only 100-200 years ago in Europe? I dunno, maybe as much as amphetamine synthesis. Lets stick with honey we already have. Oh and maybe birsch / maple sap :P

Honey and fruits were the main sources of sweeteners during the game time range. Sugar did exist but it was an expensive commodity and only few could afford. Jams and such were made with the fruits natural sugars.

Do we have maples? If so, maple sugar can be a thing.

Or the sap of sweetgum tree. Sure, it's supposed to be a gum, but Jorbsheim.
