Making rope in wilderness

Postby Tacheron » Tue Nov 03, 2015 5:16 am

I miss being able to make rope in the wilderness, felt pretty useful getting that one rope back from random strings I'd forage. Can we have a recipe for rope to make in the wild? Maybe it would take a bit more string since it's not as efficient as using a rope walk.

The reason for the rope walk was at least partly that I wasn't too fond of that.

Could the string cost of rope be reduced slightly to help balance out the inconvenience of having to use a rope walk?

That would be nice.

The current amount dosn't limit the quantities of rope we can make (the flax field is just made bigger), only increases the tedium to do it.

What was your issue with that?

If we're talking about realism, rope can be made without the rope walk. If it's the ease of making it in the wild that doesn't sit well with you, add more time to the making of one. I'd still take the time to make one on my trips out when I can't find something better to forage.

Just seemed odd. Sure, you can twin rope by hand, but it takes a bunch of time, and we don't really have a good way of pricing that.

Make it last as the timer on making cloth on a loom. Should be annoying enough :D

Over 1200 days later we have a state of the game where actions that require high amounts of stamina are discouraged as they destroy the hunger multiplier.
As there is now a good way of pricing that: time to allow us to do it.
If that wouldn't be enough it could simply reduce the quality, as not using a potters wheel does.

Let us hand-twin rope in the field, please.

What if ropewalk can work as potter's wheel? You can craft a rope in the wilderness, but it's quality will be low.
Also, as another point, rope made on the ropewalk can be made with less strings.

Am I missing something or what is the actual use case for it? Sudden sprucecap's urge to leash an animal without thinking it in advance and leaving rope at the base? Or to let a regular character use one more belt slot for water instead of the rope? :?
