Remove Mirkwoods; not fun game design

Postby banok » Mon Mar 14, 2016 1:02 pm

My issue with mirkwoods isn't so much the balance issue. I get that they are powerful because high experience cost, whatever

The thing is tho, does anyone actually ENJOY crafting cupboards full of mirkwoods and autostudying them? They are designed to be useful exclusively as afk autostudy curios to burn EXP.

Mirkwoods mere existence has a negative impact on how fun the game is. I know other people are studying 48 mirkwoods a day, whereas I only make a cupboard every few days and still find it very tiresome.

I could not bother with mirkwoods at all, but then what the point of accumulating experience?

Can we bring back the curio uses patch, but remove experience/mirkwoods all together and instead have experience events grant simply LP.

Or if we must keep experience can we replace mirkwoods with curios that have simular LP:EXP ratios but longer than 30 minute timers?

As I said in another topic.. you're either spending an hour a day gathering xp and crafting mirkwoods and autostudying them.. or you're falling behind.

Haven is grindy but no other every-day task takes anywhere near this long.

Mirkwoods are completely warping the game. No other curio feels like it has any punch in comparison.

+1 Remove mirkwoods or severely nerf them. Or at the very least put a low hardcap on how much xp you can get in a day.

Let's make everything luck-based, someone has enough luck to find glimermoss and bluebell and another one has enough time to craft mirkwoods and get exp for them, I have found 1 bluebell and like 2 glimermosses since the beggining of the world and im foraging a lot, basically my only source of LP are mirkwoods and I know that its not just me, when I see people with boletes, flotsams, glims, bluebells in study I wonder how is it possible, I forage swamp for dewy's, frogs for alts and dragonflies like 10 times a day - still found just 1 bluebell, I forage cave few times a day to get some bats or just look for glims, still found like 2-3 since the beggining. Foraging sucks - mirkwoods are good.

Well something needs to change because the exp system isn't preventing the use of auto study and they are totally overpowered for this very reason so they either need removed, nerfed or experience needs to be meaningful but either way the point would be to limit their use.

I get why those complaining are complaining but it's true what Ozzy says and we don't all auto-study, it seems very unfair to take away a good curio from the rest of us just because of a client feature that the rest of you use. :(

They aren't that great for legit play because they tie you to your base due to short study time (foraging with an inventory full of mirks defeats the point), so yeah, complete removal would only hurt autostudy. Signed.

They helped me get my idol up when in competition with another near-by village that I thought may try to claim my land, turns out I was over-reacting, lol, but even so, they are handy for quick study and gain.

Now I rarely use them but for early game for legit players they are a good thing, curios in general are rubbish early game until you can craft your own.

But maybe you guys are right, again it just seems unfair to punish legit players for the actions of others.

Only players that like them are ones that can bot them and autostudy 24/7
