So, can we get the ability to make locks for chests?

I think there was some locked safe ''strong box'' item in legacy game. Assumption is that this can get added some later times.

I don't know how I feel about locks for containers before some form of lockpicking is added.

Because in Salem at least, if you had a lock on a container you had a 100% chance of it being bashed when someone raided you. I'd much rather not have to rebuild every cupboard and chest if I got raided.

Though, the strongbox in legacy was a pretty tough thing to break. They should reimplement them.

Mm, I was thinking that the locks were only for certain types of containers. Maybe the Wooden Chest, Large Chest and Stone Caskets?

did you not see vigilance's post on shit getting bashed? all three of those are very breakable. people will just destroy them and their contents will spill out everywhere.

My suggestion for this isn't so much for protection against raiders but more for private chests in a communal group setting.

And a bit of RP for suggesting chests. Who wants their chest of treasures to be unlocked?

"private" and "communal" like that is an oxymoron. A good communal setup doesn't need locks per se, at least, my towns haven't for many worlds.

Your chest of treasures should also probably be made of more than wood. "A lock is only as good as the container it's placed on."

You arent meant to hide all your stuff in them.
I think best strategy is to build like 50 locked chests. Leave 49 of them empty and 1 with stuff.
Raider will bash few dozen (and hopefully wont find one with stuff) and then think that theyre all empty.

Edit: This wouldnt work in Haven because people would click one button and bot bashes all locked chests that it can see :(

Ya, in a larger village setup with private claims, private chests aren't needed.

However, if you're just a couple of folks sharing one village claim with communal buildings... private chests might be nice.

im in that VERY situation. and were not complete dicks, so we dont have to worry about others taking our private shit unless its important. (like a guy hogging the best quality bone saw)

we dont need private chests, and since we all have the same permissions in this communal setting, anyone can just bash the chest to get what they want anyway. this is POINTLESS.
