Can we do something about tree stunting?

Postby NeoBasilisk » Fri Apr 29, 2016 2:32 am

It's such a stupid mechanic. I have druidic rite, although I'm not sure it even makes a difference.

I planted 4 mulberry trees.
One stunted at 16%.
One stunted at 42%.
One stunted at 76%.
One made it to full maturity.

You can yell RNG RNG all you want, but it should never be statistically possible to have 100% of your trees to get stunted.

Tree stunting is silly anyways. The only time our trees should even have a chance to fail is at under 10%, if at all. If we must keep this stunting feature, then we should be able to do something to kick start their growth again. I've grown a lot of fruit trees, and they can become stunted now and then, but its not permanent. Usually they just need a little bit of fertilizer or extra water.
We should be able to get stunted trees going again.

I imagine the reason stunting exists is because jorb logs every single stunt and giggles maniacally every time he looks at the list of pain and misery.

What's even more retarded is that most trees only give two seeds, and only if they reach 100%. Given the stunting chance, you need a fairly large crop of trees each time to be fairly sure you won't be boned by unavoidable stunting. Combine that with the fact that these trees take weeks if not months to regenerate their seeds, you end up with a really shitty system in general.

I think no man complains for no stunt.

I think stunting makes sense and I really haven't run into it being a serious problem yet.

Grow more trees.

Oh, so I should be forced to grow 2-3 times as many trees as I actually need 90% of the time just to avoid a disastrous RNG streak that leaves me with no harvested seeds?

Yes? You should also have to do the same with animals because of the RNG on their stat gains/losses. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.

Ability to kickstart trees after stunting would be nice, prediction is that trees will stunt several times till being fully grown in case it becomes possible...

No, it's not the same at all. If you get a terrible RNG roll on a baby animal, you kill it and wait for the parent to give birth again.
If your tree gets stunted, you lose the seed used to plant it and get none in return for most tree types, because you only get seeds when they're basically fully grown.
If you get enough bad RNG in a row, your entire stock of tree seeds is exhausted, and you have to start over again at Q10. It's impossible to have backwards progress in breeding, because the parents are still alive and giving birth again. And please don't say to just wait for older trees to grow more seeds again.
