Natural resources - no scents left

Postby Qeeet » Sun Jul 31, 2016 12:51 pm

I think that taking soil/water/clay shouldn't leave any scents. This will help keeping the world cleaner from claims

First of all, what is wrong with the claims?
Secondly, people will just wall the resources then.
Thirdly, leaving no scents while picking up a resource from someone's claim will result in less conflicts or trades.

water/clay cannot be walled.

The problem lies in the evolution of a world. Think about it: the world started, bot users search for high clay\water\soil nodes, put a claim. Everyone else wont steal the resources, unless they are as strong as those who put a claim, ???, PROFIT. Those who put a claim (most likely bot users) wins, they develop much efficient, which is very important at the world start.
And those old school players, who haven't got such resources just stop playing and waiting for the world reset, isn't it?

Acre clay could be.

Bots do not claim the resources or wall them. According to you, water and some clay nodes cannot be claimed. So you are free to steal them and face the consequences.
People cannot compete with the factions not because they cannot bot, but because of the lack of organisation, knowledge, manpower, hours played a day and etc. Regardless whether they have a bit higher quality node or not. :)
Resource node wars are an old and working part of the gaming mechanic. It is better to not touch something that contributes to politics and trades for the sake of the people who want to play farmville, where everyone have the equal stuff. The devs have already made too many nodes of the same top quality, so the majority of the villages have the access to the top-medium stuff. Consequently, there are no actual node wars, conflicts around them, the trade completely relies on whether you were lucky enough to get some q 180 coal to burn higher quality pots and kilns.

No-one will guard the place 24/7 to track the scent that exists only for 8 hours.
The game has both hermits and competitive pvp players. Your suggestion only dis-balances the game towards trade, politics and conflict degradation for the sake of some 10+ quality.

I don't think so, knowing that I will leave scent never stops me, rather few day outlaw debuff makes me do it, also someone could do both wall and claim to protect soil and clay.
If someone decides to steal em then it has high q so it is valuable so it should leave scent.

I actually find it annoying that digging clay leaves theft instead of vandal now so I guess I feel the opposite about resources and scents.

I personally believe that the claim should be used to secure your stuff: crates, houses etc, and NOT the empty ground.

Claiming land is like the oldest tradition in the world. I think you're being silly.
“We still, alas, cannot forestall it-
This dreadful ailment's heavy toll;
The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.

You all guys are silly, you think claiming the resource at the beginning of the world and than selling junk to noobs for pearls is normal. No!
The thing is that the game currently wants to be one-world. Each world reset had a reason: change in map generator, in base mechanics etc. This makes me think that the devs want this game to be one-world.
Because of resources claimed at the beginning of the world, entropy of the world increases vastly: the amount of possible ways of evolving the world reduces greatly. The game becomes predictable.
If the world reset to be approved by devs, then thread makes no sense. If not, taking natural resources shouldn't leave any scents.
I'm done
