Make smaller map

Postby Guban » Fri Aug 05, 2016 4:59 pm

Map is far too large for ~200 players online at peak. I saw one person pass in a boat in 4 days, wtf?

Issue is with players, not the map.

I haven't played since world 4/5/6 times, but it used to be you would come across newb or a raiding party or hermits maintaining their claims etc every hour or so. What happened?

The current map is too tiny. I traveled all over the world (literally, I was in exact every supergrid by one of my chars. And I saw no any unvisited areas.
The whole current map was explored during the first month. All valuable points was already claimed during the first week. There were no space for true exploration.
And w8 was much better in this point of view. You could CHOOSE your way - settle near "civilization" or spend days INR traveling into "forsaken lands". You knew, that you'll be on your own in this journey, but could find a q90 clay node somewhere on the world edge. Now you can't. Even q50 clay (water, soil etc) nodes mostly all are claimed. All big flat plains are covered by faction's villages (yeap, they may be forgotten/raided/without authority - but you barely decide to build YOUR OWN base on it's ruins).
And loc-res-nodes? Ice-pickles, salt-basins, mother-pearls - all of them was claimed AFAP. And it led us to "I've caped my char for 3 days and now Im bored". You know where this "bore" came from? When you have only 5 ice-pickles all over the map. Only 5 - and their location is well known at the start of a second week. You don't need to explore the world when you know the exact location of OP-stuff.
IIRC, the current map is 0.01 of past one. So let's imagine, we'll have a patch someday, that will extend our current map 100 times. So we will have 500 ice-pickles, spawned in undiscovered areas with chance of finding top-q (double as high q as known ones). Or we can find a spot with q120 soil/clay/water. Most of the players will leave their bases to explore new lands as pioneers. With all their hopes and disappointments. Won't it breathe a new spirit into the game? That's my dream.

And now came you, saying - let's make new world even smaller. And tomorrow, Loftar visit your topic, and PM Jorb "Hey, bro, the people say even this world is too big, lets make it x10 smaller next time".
So, FUCK your idea, man. fuck it so hard as it can be done.

^^^
I concur, the map is small enough as it is and doesn't allow for mid-late game exploration as much as the w7 map did. Making it smaller won't solve any problems except making it easier for raiding factions to take over.

This map is pretty small especially with the connected river systems allowing for faster boat travel. I wouldn't mind seeing them increase the map size on this current world, might bring a little interest back for some players.

Map should be actually bigger. Or atleast river systems should be local like in legacy. Atm its so easy to go anywhere

I've also been saying the map is too small and has too many rivers.

Interaction isn't encouraged and village life is difficult with the monster lag we get when there's too much stuff on the same area, so I used to play for the exploration and thrill of nomadism.
Can't explore, so no point playing.

Well if they do increase it they shouldn't allow anyone to spawn in the extended area
