Vegetable Rennet

Postby ricky » Sun Aug 28, 2016 8:44 pm

In celebration of the new sheep cheeses, I would like to suggest an alternative source of rennet, primarly for casual players/hermits who dont have the time or resources to manage a whole farm of animals.

historically, rennet comes from animals, although alternatives are available albeit not as effective as animal stomachs. one such alternative is nettle rennet. As stinging nettle are already implemented into the game, perhaps making a crafting recipe with nettle to make rennet would be acceptable. Of course, this couldn't be a replacement for suckling's maw, so there would have to be relatively ineffecient compared to the original method. perhaps 5-10 nettles, .5-1l of vinegar along with a tertiary component.

Again, my main idea here is that casual/hermit players will be able to at least play with the cheese industry without having to first create a whole farm of animals.

please feel free to leave comments or suggestions.

Cheese is not for casual players.

Although I would add more acidic compounds (lemons, citrus) to the game first. Isn't that how rennet works?

So what you're saying is i have to play at least 8 hours a day for several weeks, if not months before i can experience a small portion of the game? sounds fair and reasonable. carry on

Yes that's more or less how it works. In this case the vinegar would be the acidic compound, but I fully agree a third ingredient would not be unreasonable. Perhaps some inedible berries or something along those lines.

I would be ok with this idea, if it also added more types of cheeses for both milk types. Different curdling agent should mean different types of cheese.

More variety in systems like this would, in general, benefit the game.

You misquoted, his point is 'cheese without the need to manage huge amounts of lifestock', which is acutally a sane.
Noone asked for it to be easier/faster/better (in quality or quantity) than the 'classic' way.
