My Idea Thread

Postby Ophaq » Sat Oct 08, 2016 8:57 pm

Here's just a list of ideas I came up with while lying in bed this morning. Feel free to contribute ideas here if you so wish. If I like them I may add them into the category and put your name beside them for credit (if I don't add yours it doesn't mean I think it's bad but it probably didn't appeal to me).

************************
Environment:
- New animal wolf and wolf pack - Wolves are like a mix of bears and deer/lynx. Strong offense and very agile. They move as fast lynx do (or slightly slower). Wolves will always spawn in groups of 2 to 5 making them a fearsome foe to be avoided. Wolves spawning in 2 will be more common, and their spawning is rarer than finding a bear. A pack of five wolves will be as rare as a mammoth. Wolves have a higher chance to spawn in hill and mountain biomes.

- New animal dire wolf - Like wolves but only spawns by itself. It is bigger than an average wolf and much, much fiercer. They are quite rare but if you find one then you will either be in luck or be running for your life. Dire wolves have a higher chance to spawn near dark green forest biomes and mountain biomes.

- Add island spawning far within deep oceans without the necessity for having shallow water surround them or branching off a large island's shallow water. Or, rework shallow water spawning to have a chance of spawning in say, the middle of an ocean. This has probably been discussed a lot before so take it with a grain of salt. I'm just putting it here for reference.
************************
************************
Game mechanics:
- Add a system that differentiates between sharpened items and their EXP costs (I.E spending 500 XP for stage 2 sharpening and then only 200 XP for a different tool).

- Tool quality scales with its efficiency (I.E a q80 scythe will work around maybe 30-50% faster and consume less stamina than a q10).
************************
************************
Game systems:
- Character customization box upon entering the river - More hair styles, a few different faces, and maybe the thickness of your character. This could open up some cash shop opportunities for premium hair (just an idea).

- A better client - I know this won't happen for a while but I'm just putting it out there. I use amber and it's a godsend. I just really wish something like that was the main client of Haven. I know the devs are busy with other things to bother prioritizing their resources on a better client. Thankfully, we have a good community that provides us with different clients like Amber.

- A "discovery" window or tab - This shows what you have discovered and lists what the items do, their stats, satiations, etc. Alternatively, just list what stats a food and their ingredients give in the crafting window by hovering over it. This will only work if you have crafted it and discovered the ingredients. This is very useful for knowing what you want to cook so you don't have to have a cupboard with one of every food item crafted for reference.

Hearth Magic:
- Sharpen the tool - 20/30/40% increased efficiency with tools (Stamina consumption and speed at which they work). 200/300/400XP cost per stage.

- Sharpen the weapon - 5/10/15% increased attack rating on weapons. 400/600/800XP cost per stage (maybe less, unsure of how balanced it is).
************************
************************
Objects:
- Trowels - Like a one handed shovel with 50% of its efficiency. It's in between using your hands and using a shovel to dig soil. A good quality trowel can be just as good as a medium quality shovel if a tool quality efficiency mechanic is incorporated. Trowels are useful for those times when you're digging a lot of soil but want to hold more soil in your pack. Having a travelers sack equipped with a trowel would help speed up working by a bit in this regard.

- Rakes - I'm not sure what rakes would be used for but they're a nice farming and gardening tool to have so... yeah!

- Metal and wooden shelves - Aesthetic storage to hang upon walls. Holds cups and other small objects as storage and decoration.

- Wall hooks - Buckets and tools can be stored on these for more compact storage and aesthetics. For example, having buckets hung on hooks in a barn would look really nice. Wall hooks can be a prequisite for the next item.

- Metal and wooden shelves with hooks - Like the two above but combines them for variety.

- Rope hoist - Uses a coil of rope on a wheel and a lever. A platform is attached to the rope and the object is built at a cliff side. You can put wheelbarrows, carts, and other carry able objects onto it and it will be lowered to the ground.

- More variety of crops to grow and more variety of fruit trees. This has probably been said before but I'm just adding it here anyway. And there probably will be more additions down the line in game development.

- Wolf cape - Gives a mix of AGI and STR.

- Wolf tooth - Gives similar EXP to bear teeth and gives +2 AGI and STR at lowest quality and then scales from there.

- Dire wolf tooth - Gives twice the bonus a wolf tooth gives and +1 stealth.

- **Paper, wood pulp, and book creation** -
+Wood shavings - Refined from wooden planks with a saw equipped. Can be used for some curios (haven't come up with any yet).
+Linen scraps - Converted from linen cloth by tearing it up into small bits. Used in the process of paper making.
+Wood pulp - Made through a long process of putting wood shavings into a barrel with vinegar to make wood pulp.
+Paper mache - Adding wood pulp into a barrel of water and then adding flour. This can be crafted into a variety of things such as mache paper items such as curios.
+Linen pulp - Made through a long process of putting linen scraps into a barrel with vinegar to make linen pulp.
+Writing paper slop - By combining wooden pulp, linen pulp, and water in a barrel.
+Paper sheets - Paper sheets must be pressed at a paper pressing station using writing paper slop.
+Writing paper - Used in the crafting of books which are a new complex curio to be described below. It is converted into 3 papers from 1 paper sheet.
+Pressing station - Works like the pressing station for seeds but is more... flat? It presses pulp into paper sheets by pressing out the water out.
+Ink - Crafted with any dye.
+Ink well - A place to store ink. Can be placed on a writing desk.
+Quill - Used in writing books. It is crafted from a chicken feather. It needs ink to function and can be placed on a writing desk.
+Writing Desk - Used in the process of crafting books.
+Leather binding - Crafted with bone glue and leather.
+Written paper - An ingredient used in crafting books. Its quality is based off the paper, ink, quill, and writing desk's qualities with dexterity and psyche involved. A written paper will show its potential LP gain but cannot be studied as a curio. Writing is very taxing on stamina and takes a fair amount of time. It processes on a per page basis so you'll be sitting at your desk for a good long while finishing enough paper for long books. In the end it's worth it though, because each page written adds x amount of LP based on its quality. I.E q1-10 written paper will give 100LP per page, q11-40 300LP per page, etc.
+Books - A complex curio where its quality is based on the written paper and leather binding added to it. It is crafted from 3 written paper and a leather binding. More written paper can be added to the book but is dependent on the base crafted book's quality. I.E 1-10q book would yield up to 5 pages in total that can exist in that book. 11-40q would be 10 pages, 41-80q would be 15, and anything higher is would be up to 20 (as an example). Total LP gain is calculated by the total LP added by all the pages plus a +/- 10% bonus or deduction if the binding used for it is higher/lower quality than the overall quality between pages. Books, once studied, can be restudied but have a long cool down. They also take a fair amount of time to study dependent on the player's intelligence, psyche and book quality.
+Written scroll - Written paper can also be crafted into scrolls which can show player messages and be hung up on walls.
+Secret decree - This uses a written scroll and a great wax seal. These show message only specific players can see and can be only be seen by an unauthorized person if vandalized.
+Book shelf - A place to store books, written scrolls, and secret decrees. Its function serves that purpose and is mostly decorative.

- Animal fur rugs - Functions like placing hides on a wall but is instead crafted on a loom like a normal rug and the hide of desired type. There is a rug for each animal.

- Suckling bottle - A bottle used to 2L of milk. Can be fed to calves and other baby animals with the milk of its own animal type (another animal's milk can't be fed to a cow for example). This is useful for when you accidentally take too much milk from the suckling's mother and will encourage more milking, as long as you are able to feed the baby animal yourself regularly.

- River pearl mussel stockpile - As the name describes. I have farmed for pearls many times and end up with 15+ cupboards filled with cooked mussels. If we could have a stockpile for at least the raw versions, I would be grateful.

Thanks for reading. I may update this if I come up with anything else I think might be nice to have in the game.

Don't forget about the search function! Threads that ask a question that has been answered in the wiki or another recent thread, or threads with commonly suggested ideas like "add bridges" will be moderated.

Title your threads properly. Condense the main idea of your post into one phrase or sentence and use that for the title. Poorly named threads will be moderated.

Please avoid making grab bag threads with multiple unrelated suggestions. Give each idea its own thread so posters can discuss its merits, so that ideas aren't overshadowed by more popular ideas, and so that they might be found later using the search tool.

Please act accordingly.

I think he think this is thread for you to read he suggestings, not for he to read you suggestings.

This is the thread for you, and hopefully jorb and loftar, to read my ideas. You may suggest ideas and if I fancy them, then I'll put them in their respective category on my master list of ideas with credit to you on the idea. You don't have to post ideas here if you don't want to because this part of the forum is for that and you can just create a thread. But in the case that this does get read by jorb and loftar, it will be nice to have a compilation of ideas submitted into one list and categorized.

is both from Jorb and part of The Rules.

If you ask me: I think he put some thought in the wording and the reasoning behind it. So you'll most likely get better results (especially when it comes to being positively received by Jorb himself) when adhering to the guidelines laid out by the one you intend to listen to you.

I think this one is an original idea and a pretty cool one.
Not sure the devs would add it because of the implications of faster Q breeding.

Sorry, didn't notice that rule for the grab bag threads. :(
I'd find it spam anyhow if I posted a thread for every idea I came up with so that's why I compiled it all together.

Thanks. I think the feeding would be based off the quality of milk, so it wouldn't really make much of a difference between feeding a cow another cow's high quality milk in comparison to the cow feeding off your say, high quality grain. Because the cows are usually capped by the feed quality you give them anyway and the calf is getting just about the same quality of the feed the mother is getting. And that's only if the mother is actually around the same quality as the feed they're feeding on. Unless I'm mistaken and there's another way to get faster Q breeding.
