Intra-Village Portico Travel

Postby Kaios » Thu Jan 05, 2017 3:54 pm

Currently, road travel in and around villages can be a nuisance due to the inability to build and travel a road through a gate. I'm not sure this is even going to be resolved so my alternative suggestion would be to allow travel between porticos within the same village only.

There are a couple options I thought of for the manner in which they would be connected. It could be setup so that you have to connect two porticos to each other at which point right clicking them would give you the option to either port to a charter stone or the second option would be to "Walk Through" to the other portico it has been connected to at a cost of travel weariness. Since most porticos are going to be relatively close in distance the cost could be a fixed travel weariness amount rather than one based on the character's charisma and distance traveled.

Second option would simply be to have two menu choices when accessing a portico, one for charters and one listing the porticos built on that village claim (which you would also be able to name).

End Result: Faster travel inside and between locations under the same village claim without the need to clutter up your village with road connections and avoid the hassle of traveling twice or more down the same road when it hits a gate. May give greater incentive to players to extend their village claim more rather than build alt villages.

Oh god yes please!

a man need only strike another to make him evil."

Also add somekind of permission system in that.
So you could make some porticos only useable by certain permission group.

Could also put range limit to prrevent abuse.
Like you could only build them within x tiles from village idol.

Yes, I'd like to be able to use porticos in that way too, I particularly like the idea of being able to walk through it ... as I'd built mine below ground I did automatically try it via my charter stone as soon as it was constructed with the hope of being able to fast travel between layers, lol, but it just told me that I was already at my destination ofc. :)

Of course devs probably say" Use trails "
but trails are difficult to use inside village, especially if there are gates in that area too.

The other annoying bit about them is the restriction on placing the connection stones too close to each other, even in villages that typically have larger roads such as plot based it still presents difficulty in creating roads that travel in multiple directions through your village while having them not look like a total mess.

Some villages are so big or complex that porticos are just needed.

Yes I agree

This would be great too, it's really needed. Currently there isn't much incentive for extending your village claim underground, it's actually better not to do it this way so you have less areas sharing the same shield.

I think some incentive to build bigger village instead of more village is good one. This is sounding good to me I think.

Sort of set some precedent for cheaper travel in local space. Should it be also easier to travel within kingdom than between in some way?
