Damage = opening * base combat weight for attack (before attack or stance modifiers, clamped between 0.75 and 1.25)

Just MC IMO. Type is already included in weapon's base damage, and quality advantage is already good enough and doesn't need a buff.

My one concern is this might nerf Opportunity Knocks too much.

Main problem is the skills mainly affect your opening generation, not your damage, which is a good thing IMO.

The real problem right now is you can create openings with UA and do full damage with melee damage without MC skill, because skill affects weight and defenses, not damage, and once an opening is wide enough a MC of 10 can do the same thing as having an MC of 200

I don't think applying damage bonuses to skills is a good thing, there is already a lot of problems in the game in terms of scaling as it is, but rather, melee just needs better options for combat in general, currently UA just blows MC out of the water in terms of combat moves and manuvers.

We could also just make it so that melee attacks use one or two colors and make UA suck at generating those colored openings, making melee skill better at delivering melee damage.

I have opposite opinion. The problem with MC is that you cannot generate openings (the only viable schemes are Parry + Barrage or Sideswipe spam, both loose to UA analogs)
If you want to "cap" the damage of the melee moves by the MC value it will just force people to raise some amount of MC for finisher, MC will not become great. I think what we need is more MC combet moves which can generate openings and more MC stances

Agreed, surely about more meele opening generators, i think the amount of stances is fine.
