Basic public market

Postby Fostik » Thu Feb 16, 2017 2:17 pm

Game needs an independent market place, where will be:
- Fully controlled by gamedevs
- Have constant flow of coins
- Have constant outflow of coins
- No owners predilection
- Pay for barter stand system
- Safety

What for?
- Because trading causes people buy additional tokens
- Because market owner can leave game
- Because any market place can be raided some time

The devs' comments on the nature of the game suggest they want everything to be created by the players.

Still, I can't see how a solid economy with different currencies and stuff could develop under the current system. Almost everyone is self-sufficient, there's no product decay, demand or uniqueness, and trade isn't even a necessity in general. So more incentives to trading would be nice, regardless of the form in which they're implemented.

i dream of something like Age Of Empires 2 market

it's a structure you build and connect to other cities markets... so you can trade coins and buy/sell quantities of resources... NPC carriers actually make the transporting in small units that are vulnerable to attacks... could generate crime scents

Trade is made difficult/irrelevant because of the quality system. The majority of goods aren't fungible so traders who aren't larping are only interested in very high quality items or ones that have their scarcity enforced by the game itself (fate curios). Thus the economy has next to no need for second-tier producers (hermits, small villages, etc.) because volume can't make up for low quality.

Concerning the thread topic, I don't think an official market will ever happen. The devs' stated policy is minimum interference in the world, and a dev-run marketplace flies in the face of that concept.
