Natural Resources as Coin for Realm Blessings

Postby DaniAngione » Tue Mar 07, 2017 9:55 pm

Greetings :)

This is an idea I just had, seemed interesting :D
First of all, wanted to say that I really love the new mechanics on realm blessings and how stuff now work as 'coins' (the idols and menhirs) for the blessings.

But it occurred to me that some of the descriptions, especially the blessings related to nature, seem to connect more to the land and how the people from this realm relate to it rather than the work of the people itself (which are idols and menhirs...)

So I thought:
What if several new "coins" were added to the pool, providing for more varied "costs" for blessings... And what if those new "coins" were naturally occurring things/resources instead of things you can build? For example: Heartwood trees could be used to enact certain blessings but to have them available your realm has to have them inside your claim :D

That way, over time with more and varied blessings, the kingdom buffs would not only relate to the grinding for the buildable resources but also a reflection of the land itself, encouraging expansion, more value to resources rather than the item they give itself and interesting possibilities of human contact and conflict :)

Just a thought!

Pretty poor idea tbh. You are just asking for almost no-effort realm blessings.

Still I would like to see some variety on the current system. For example a possibility use gold instead of silver in menhirs and something instead of guano at grotesque idols (Maybe rock crystals?).

This would me a realm would have to fight in order to secure areas. I'm not against this.
but a function to claim an area would have to be made for kingdoms like how villages have cerins.
but more of a kingdom can make it's own small claims.
WARNING! MY ENGISH SUCKS.

This is all a matter of balance and the lack of sight in seeing different blessings or different values/costs makes it sound like a poor idea.
But with a bit of effort you can imagine different blessings (more powerful or less powerful) and different costs based on how common such resources are. If Heartwood Trees are so common - and Jorb & Loftar have this data, of course - a buff that uses them could require 5 or 10 of them even (for example)

So it's all a matter of balance and this shouldn't take from the idea itself :)

Thanks everyone for the support as well :D
