Farming for the worse

Postby SlicingTheMoon » Wed Mar 15, 2017 5:43 pm

Farming is crap now in my opinion.
I have been farming for quite some time now and the new system makes no sense what so ever.
You need literally to log in every 5h to plant some seeds to make any progress at all to increase the quality...
and you know what? That is freaking impossible for me, i got a god damn life where i work 5day each week and some days 14h in one shift.
I have been farming for over 4 weeks and the progress i have made in farming... have only been negative(yes i have only lost quality).

If you want the farming to make any logical/realistic sense it should be that each crop got its own quality. for example.

If you have 100 beetroots planted, then 50 of those will turn out worse than the old ones, 25 of them will stay the same.
While 20 will turn out a bit better while 5 will have a higher increase in quality than the rest.
This is how selective breeding works, "plant the best, eat the rest"

One way to implant this in to the game would be, to make that when you plant the seed, that is when it gets decided what quality it will have.
Of course i love that we cant see the quality of the crop until it is farmed, it would be okay for me if you could check the quality after stage 3 of the crop, but not important.

The system we have now is you plant 100 beetroots, and everything either turn to shit, it wont change, or it increase a tiny bit.
You have a 5/11 chance for it to get better or worse and 1/11 that it wont change.
And that means it wont change at all even if you plant hundred of thousands of beetroots each time,
because the chance for it to increase is just as high for it to decrease.

I do rather sit and sort beetroots an extra hour while farming than not making any progress at all.

The whole sorting for quality thing is cancer and just requires bots. I don't know who would actually agree with you on this besides the most dedicated autist/bot user.

my ql is rising ok, planting very small batches every 12h, 24h, sometimes i forget, sometimes i get a big spike in ql

takes some time to renew bigger farms, but i'm keeping my hermitage the same size, short population of alts and animals, no bots, also no intentions of rising to the top

how the hell you use bots?

and i am using a lot and is increasing slowly maybe i lost queality sometime but wont matter to me as is food i use almost at moment

when i have enough of all things i will start doing every 5 hour or 12 hours a plant for blocks to increase quality

but i have a question

what is the fastest crop? i whant good quality crop to use as fooder and soil

I'm neither austist nor bot but I enjoyed sorting better quality seeds from worse quality seeds, it was even easy with 2 cupboards to take the better ones ;)
Just people not dedicated enough cried. And so, we have it your way.

Well, then plant half / save half in case of quality drop. I had that often, while my neighbours had always been lucky. If You don't have that much time or luck, You have just to do it safe by keeping some seeds in case of quality drop ;)

I know what you are saying about the old farming system, scroll sorting a small farm was easy and such a pain for massive farms. But this new system means a tiny farm can raise Q too. If you aren't able to plant every 5 hours, and most people can't then you won't be able to keep up, but realistically you wouldn't keep up with those top players anyway. I'm not sure but having your farm on the join of 4 minimap tiles may give you 4 different rolls, but this needs testing.
Just get your farm set up so every morning and evening you have 2 of everything to harvest and resow, this will give you enough seeds for planting 6 tiles, 4 of which can be saved for later for a better roll or transfering to a bulk field for fodder or main use.

The world is divided into different speed fields so my beetroot grows quickest but might be slower than someone elses various.

which one is the fastest?

i prefer know general information than been testing until i noticed which one is the fastest node

so which is the fastes crop?

beets and carrots generally have low growing time. i prefer carrots as you can reap at 26-30hours for seeds, but that was w9. idk if the variance growth time has altered the growth by much e.o

and i have middle of my land the 'area' changes, as my carrots can be planted same time but half are a few hours slower. plant growth time can vary by area some as of w10

a man need only strike another to make him evil."
