New study - Monuments | Master pieces

Postby Luanes » Fri Jun 23, 2017 4:29 am

I was thinking in the creation of a new type of study, where you could place your character "Looking to" a Master Piece | Monument and gain extra LP just by staring it AND remaining online ( I mean, you can logout, turn off your PC, but when you use the monument to "Stare at it" your character will be online).

My base idea is that every monument | masterpiece give a small ammount of LP for a very long time(no icilcles :D ), but you earn for each "period" you stare on it, instead of just when you finishes it all. And, if you finish studying a Monument | Masterpiece you need to found a greater one to start studying again.

One special difference that i wanted to add, is that the skill to create the masterpiece should make it quality better than it's material like: Quality = (3* Material + Skill)/4

So we could create villages that are "Museum", where we could bring our best Monuments | Masterpieces for the entire world look at it. Players would go to that village to look for the most increadible pieces of art that they could find!

Some suggestions for each skill:

Farming -> A scarecrow
Sewing -> Giant String Art
Masonry -> Sculpure
Carpentry -> A carved bear
Smithing ->Newton's cradle
Cooking -> Jack-o-Lantern
Lore -> ???
Stealth -> ???
Survival -> ???
Exploration -> A wall map

Boring idea
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

The main idea is not to STAY ONLINE, doing nothing( that is why you thought it would be boring?) and logout but the character be online. Like when you're a outlaw. And that monuments | masterpieces would be unliftable, immobile. So people would invite other players to go to their villages and craft their art :D

Sounds cool to create an incentive to visit friendly villages, but gaining lp for standing still doing nothing is good only for people who bot and create dozens of alts to claim everything.

-more gameplay involving waiting and doing nothing
-will be prohibitively expensive for smaller villages, worsening the current divide in power
-larger villages will find some creative way to exploit this for a free LP farm

What's the benefit of this either? A way to get free LP by keeping your computer running? What part of that is fun?

I mean, not let you computer on.... you just go to the masterpiece when you're going to logoff. Yes, it's exploitable to have dozen of alts looking to the same monument, but if it had a cooldown / max time that you could use the same monument type which the same quality, it would mitigate such abuse. Maybe make the LP gain dismiss for each hour starring it? So bots / alts that only look to the monuments would have not much benefit if they've been for days starring it. But a player that spend most of time in his job / daily activities would get the most part of the benefits.

-more gameplay involving waiting and doing nothing --> Doing not while you're offline is really a problem? ( maybe you can be dead because you was starring something? )
-will be prohibitively expensive for smaller villages, worsening the current divide in power --> Why? Nobody said that the cost for building the monuments must be expensive. Would be expensive to hire someone with higher skill, but now only

-larger villages will find some creative way to exploit this for a free LP farm --> I can't deny that, so instead of a raw LP/hour, maybe a bonus % for you actual studies? So alts / bots will still need to find their curios.

What's the benefit of this either? A way to get free LP by keeping your computer running? What part of that is fun? --> Well, i want more the idea of creating stuff that would create "things" unique or special, and increase the interaction with another players / villages. Don't need to be free LP it could be another thing. There's why i want to discuss it :D

I like the idea of themed monuments, but as mentioned it has too many implications that might make it not fun or too exploitable.

An alternative would be gaining a skill point in the skill the monument depicts, "an apprentice learning from a master".
Looking at a carved pumpkin and learning how to sew from the LP doesn't make too much sense.

The skill gain would optimally be a fated event, and will become more unlikely the closer your skill level is to the master itself.
So it's a neat little addition that makes it easier for new players or characters to catch up to someone else in a certain profession, it being fated would require a set of preconditions to be met for a skill gain, so a bot alt is much less likely to benefit from it.

But most of all it adds more diverse decoration possiblities, without it being vain.

Edit:
And logging off isn't that interesting as it doesn't add any interaction. Maybe something shorter term with active involvement, or a passive chance to benefit from it when you're working a certain craft in the vicinity of a suitable monument.
"Monument Gardens/Villages could probably still invite players to craft their monuments if they provide necessities on location.
The visitor will benefit from crafting the monument in vicinity of other monuments, potentially gaining skill points.
The village will benefit by having more monuments on location raising the chance for successful skill gain by a bit and villagers can be under passive monument influence permanently.

realms give a bonus (most of them OP), why not have villages confer a small bonus in different areas from these monuments?

possibly have the master pieces give an 'aura'. such as a skull giving a bonus to survival
