i cant be the first one to see this game is missing dragons.... tamable mountable dragons....
I come from a childhood of Ultima Online... countless hours lost on that freaking game... and had all sort of tamed creatures, from giant beetles, to nightmare horses that shoot lightning.... and the top prize was an awesome white wyrm.....
Dragons could be a fearsome threat to any kingdom and villages within, maybe drawn towards gold?... so if much gold is located at a certain area, dragon is more likely to attack?
they steal gold and amass it at their lair? secret cave? deep underground?
then it could be uber hard to tame, maybe an entire village (10+ people) required to tame it... but would add to PVE as well... which seems to be lacking after the mammoths are easy to solo....
the upkeep alone of such tamed creature could be huge, like eat a cow whole every day or so....
maybe even make it so only the king of a realm can ride it (?) not sure about all the details, but it would sure make it something to work towards to....
a dragon could ignore ground obstacles like trees or such while flying.... even fly over water?
gets tired as with horses, same mechanics... maybe just one option to fly or walk....
you could potentialy fly over a palisade with it.... though the implications and implementations of that could be discussed, like if u fly over a palisade u are instantly marked as visitor, same as with going thru a claimed gate....
Even if just for PvE, without the tamable/riding part, they would add something to fear and collaborate towards if a dragon settles on a kingdom...
Imagine the following scenario.... you are sitting calmly on ur rocking chair, when u see a dragon fly by towards the west... and you know west of you is a big capital city that probably has lots of gold.... you inform the leaders and they await the creature at the gate riding horses...
the dragon flies past them, grabbing one person off the horse and dropping it many meters away, half clawed... the archers start shooting, doing holes in its wings and forcing it to the ground.... then the horsemen charge in for glorious combat.... only to get half baked by the flames....
after intense combat, the creature is finally defeated, and if it had a lair, it can be tracked using the dragon head, or something similar, to retreive the treasures it amased...
i think that will add to the overall gameplay, since then kingdoms would have to worry about something else than players....
anyway, i hope they are tamable too =P leave u with this image i found xD
