Make animals on the minimap require perception

Postby ricky » Sun Sep 10, 2017 4:07 pm

Was thinking about how as soon as you drop into the world you can see all the creatures immediately and felt that's a little too easy.

Would be cool if we could only identify animals on the minimap after either
1) getting a certain per*exp, similar to plants
2) encountering/killing a certain number of the animal to learn their "tracks"

In this case you could still see all the animals in the game, just not on the minimap.

Logically, you could see larger animals like bears and walruses without having to learn to "track" them, but smaller animals like moles, squirrels, and fox you would need to practice tracking them before you could see them on the minimap

Yeah, that's cool .... very good idea.
Also add frogs too for consistency.

Nope, every animals not visible on the minimap untill you "learned" about them (or perception).

This game needs to be more harsh, trust me when i say this, people could complain about but in reality everyone like the challenge.
If you lose, you want to try again, it's like that for pretty much everybody.
When there is no more challege people get bored.
Also i'm always in favor of a hunting remake.

I agree with the idea, but I fear custom clients will eventually break this rule and allow everyone to see every creature.

Yeah, but who cares ... if they want to cheat let them doing that, like already happening.
We need to improve the official game, not custom clients.

I won't call shit lot of work to set minimap icons based on perception. I could be wrong tough.

It would certainly be easy to implement, but indeed completely pointless. As long as the client is at all aware of the animals, it can show them on the minimap. No need to introduce a mechanic whose only effect is to give people incentive to not use the default client.

That being said, it wouldn't be impossible to not send information at all about the animals to the client until they come "close enough to be discovered", or something like that. The question is just if it wouldn't just look weird when they popped out of thin air suddenly.

They could come from behind an object (tree), spring up from inside deocative grass objects, ...

Question is more if it would be fun to be KOed on a regular basis by ninja animals.

What? I thought we were talking about invisible animals icons on the minimap .... not in the world of course.
Not having animals on the minimap is already damn good in scarying people to death .... what have you smoked to think at ninjas animals? :D

In case you have read the first part of his post you should have learned why 'animals in the world but not on the map' is pointless.
My comment was toward the second part of loftars post, where he thought loudly about removing the pointlessness by also not delivering them to the world unless they're 'discovered'.
