For when dogs are added someday

I know dogs are in the works already, and I had an idea for how they'd breed. Once tamed they start out looking fairly wild, close to the wolf. Hearthlings can breed them for certain stats and this eventually gives newborn puppies a different model. Quality determines how well they do the thing they're bred for. Villages could specialize in one or a few dog breeds, then trade for the others. Dogs could also be bred back to original or changed into another breed if their stats change enough.


Original - Well rounded dog. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Strength - Leonberger. Could pull a small cart alongside their master if such a thing were added.

Speed - Greyhound. Can keep up with a horse at third speed.

Scent - German Shepard. Tracks blood trails or criminal scents.

Big game hunting - Great Dane. Strong against large animals such as bears, moose, etc.

Small game hunting - Dachshund. Strong against small animals like badgers, foxes, etc. Picks up rabbits, squirrels, etc.

Water hunting - Poodle. Originally bred as a water-retriever. Strong against beavers, otters, etc.

Bird hunting - German Pointer. Strong against swans. Picks up smaller birds like quails, chickens, etc.

Herding - Border Collie. Increases speed of leashed animals, helping them keep up with hearthlings. Assists taming.


I get that this would be a lot of work to add, I'm certainly not expecting it to all be included the second dogs come out. It's just a suggestion for a long term project.

I dont think hnh should support the sick breeding of funny looking dog species.

If dogs are to be added, only dog breed available should be somethign that looks close to the animal that it is tamed from.

Well it's not like I'm saying we should breed dogs that struggle just to be alive like pugs or basset hounds. I'd rather have the healthier breeds. I admit I don't know much about dogs, but I agree that unhealthy breeding is not okay.

yes specilized breeding for certain dogs from wolfs would be amazing


say all dogs have these things but certain ones better at certain trainings and stuff making them better at those

general idea

smallest dogs alert well barking at players from a distance when leashed and herding?

med small are fastest good racing dogs

med well rounded

med large pick up dog

large hunting dog

huge combat dog

Just my rambollings on canines for HnH,

Once Wolves are implemented I am hoping that they can be leashed using "A Bloody Mess" the item you get from butchering a chick, (as I just don't see how attractive a clover is to a wolf), then taming can begin same as other livestock I suppose, (though I am not really in agreement with beating an animal into submission is the optimal way of "Taming"). After the canine is tamed it needs a food source of course, I would propose a new container of some type, such as a tub or pan that feeds only carnivores and only accepts meats and meat products such as entrails, intestines, bone, raw/roasted meats and MAYBE meat dishes such as meat pies, liver and onions etc..

For those that are desiring different breeds of canines, then what meats are predominantly fed to the tamed canine affects the different stats of said canine. Feeding a diet of poultry would increase one stat, while rodent meat ( squirrel, mole, rat, would increase another, (intestines, entrails and bone since they have no stat value would only count towards wellfedness and not towards any stat increase. Perhaps only able to increase 2 stats in total and once a stat increase has begun, ONLY those stats can be raised, making it so that you need to plan what you want to increase at the beginning.

When breeding 2 canines with 4 different raised stats, an average of each stat could be used with a RNG modifier -1/+3. perhaps 3 stages of growth unlike our other tamed creatures, New born,puppy,adult. Newborn pups drink milk, Puppies drink milk OR eat from pan/tub, with NO stat change, Adults eat from pan/tub and stat change is in effect.

Well, there is my 2 cents worth, I expect I'll be given change.
