There is no way this could ever be mistaken for a normal map, it looks like a child's interpretation of the world.
There are little to no major points of reference besides mountains, more sprawling forests and more grassland would actually help navigation since currently you're never quite sure which grassy plain or forest out of hundreds you're in. Nice looking, sprawling meadows and grasslands are strangely cut off by rivers and lakes constantly, making road-building and adventuring by foot annoyingly hard (more frequent shallow water crossings did fix this to an extent but it's still annoying.) I'd also talk about how many settlements there are within close proximity and that you can't go more than a few minimaps before you trip over the 15th village in a half an hour you've found but that's been discussed quite frequently I think. The world should be made much larger unless there is a better structure decay system implemented.
Larger, more consistent biomes and far fewer lakes and rivers would go a long way towards fixing this, and would also potentially make lakes and waterways even more valuable as methods of quick transportation and trade.
