Hearthling has grown attached to an object

If you use the same objects frequently, you should get small bouses to the quality of them.
Like if you use your same old trusty axe for hunting, you should eventually get small bonus from using it, as you have emotionally grown attached to it.
This could be applied to at least to bows, swords and all other weapons, but also to other tools.

Would just result in killing of the characters to get better tools or something silly.
The one suggested in this thread is much more natural.

None there talked about killing characters, just about a tool being repairable by replacing the individual parts (which might affect quality) and getting used to it (which might grant a bonus).

Could be an interesting way to keep old tools from being rendered useless due to the metal spiral rat-race.

Shouldn't be something like use the tool X amount of times though. Something like experience events where trying it every couple days has a chance to trigger the effect.

Sounds like a good idea that would end up being a small benefit for most players and a huge benefit for botters.

Sounds cool but for axes I would be afraid it might lead to bots (don't have to be bot even actually) cutting entire forests to get to that point?

It wouldnt be " cut 100 trees" type of thing.
Kind of like experience events that you could get every now and then when using the tool. So you couldnt level up your tool just by grinding it like that.
If some kind of repair mechanics are added, this idea becomes even better, because it gives you a reason to repair your old faithful tool, instead of just making a new one.

Bonus to quality? Don't hate it, I guess.

Could quality bonus also be linked to time in the world rather than amount of times used, with a minimum usage amount requirement. This would eliminate exploitation possibly? I think this type of game addition adds some real flavor. You could even add periodic bonuses such as after a certain time the item becomes "ancestral" and a guild slot opens for which you must quest for the proper gem to put in the slot or some such.
