Cookbook

Variable ingredients for food recipes are an amazing addition that allows for tons of options when you are trying to raise a certain fep. This is great, but it leads the problem that listed feps of recipes almost always lie when it comes to what feps the end result gives.

For example raisin butter-cakes (http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Raisin_Butter-Cake) are listed as giving 7 Cha +1 feps at q10. In reality, the feps that raisin butter-cakes vary widely between different ingredients. For example:

Raisin Butter-Cakes using Cow butter and Wheat flour: 3.94 Cha +1, 6 Con +1
Raisin Butter-Cakes using Sheep butter and Barley flour: 4.7 Cha +1, 1.85 Per + 1, 3.06 Dex +1

A noob looking at raisin butter-cakes might think it is a purely-Cha food, when in reality for some variations, less than half of the feps given are Cha. That means that if you want to know what the actual feps the food gives yuo, you have to look at a spreadsheet before making any food. Spreadsheets have to be maintained by the user, and if the player uses someone else's spreadsheet, it is not always up-to-date or fully comprehensive.

The current situation isn't very good at giving players information that they can use. A possible fix would be the addition of the "Cookbook." When held in the inventory, crafting a variation of a food recipe adds that variation to the cookbook. So if you have previously crafted raisin butter-cakes using all 4 combinations of butter/flour, you would be able to pull up the recipe in the cookbook and look at how the different ingredients change the feps given for each of the 4 variations. Players would still have to experiment with different ingredients to find the different recipe variations, but now the game would automatically show you those variations after you discover them, rather than the player having to create their own spreadsheet. Perhaps it would also allow the user to eventually select which variation they want to make from the cookbook itself, and allow players to share their recipes with other players. At the very least, players need to be better presented with more accurate information.

The fep spreadsheet I use: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =490653153

Make butter with sheep and cow milk (in any proportion) and you'll get neutral butter that buffs the natural feps of the food.

At least with raisin cakes, using mixed butter with either barley or wheat flour gives lower Cha feps than 7 Cha listed

I full support this idea. As it stands the cooking variations are a bit arcane to newer players and require a fair bit of wiki perusing. This could be tied to the cooking credo (coming soon). I also like your idea about, simply put, food cravings, that basically give a bonus to what you're in the mood for.

Your thoughts are interesting and well thought out to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Love the idea!

I'm doing a lot of cooking myself and have recently started storing all variations of the food I make so I can have a look whenever I'm unsure on a recipe but storage is running out fast xD

its easy to remember: which ingredient provides which fep. if u wanna get like in description u should use mixed butter, milk, flour
milk -cow =con
-sheep =cha
-goat = dex
flour -barley =con
-wheat =agi
dont yet tested sweeteners (honey rules, because quantity)

P.S. if u dont wanna discover all by yourself u could use wiki or another resources
need to ask Jorb about mixed flour, sweetener

I don't think ingredients' properties are set across all recipes. For example, Lettuce Leaves increase Con when used in Escargots d'Amour, but reduce Con when used in Red Shred Salad.

Alright, so I created a little mock-up of what a potential cookbook might look like:

P nice but knowing The Devs(TM), it'd be better if it just listed the recipes you've unlocked (not the recipes you CAN unlock) and FEP types with no values.

also, nothing is stopping you from updating the wiki. we try to find the most common FEP values rewarded for a food and add that to the tables, making it a "baseline" for which other FEPS may be added or removed based on various ingredients.
