Variable ingredients for food recipes are an amazing addition that allows for tons of options when you are trying to raise a certain fep. This is great, but it leads the problem that listed feps of recipes almost always lie when it comes to what feps the end result gives.
For example raisin butter-cakes (http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Raisin_Butter-Cake) are listed as giving 7 Cha +1 feps at q10. In reality, the feps that raisin butter-cakes vary widely between different ingredients. For example:
Raisin Butter-Cakes using Cow butter and Wheat flour: 3.94 Cha +1, 6 Con +1
Raisin Butter-Cakes using Sheep butter and Barley flour: 4.7 Cha +1, 1.85 Per + 1, 3.06 Dex +1
A noob looking at raisin butter-cakes might think it is a purely-Cha food, when in reality for some variations, less than half of the feps given are Cha. That means that if you want to know what the actual feps the food gives yuo, you have to look at a spreadsheet before making any food. Spreadsheets have to be maintained by the user, and if the player uses someone else's spreadsheet, it is not always up-to-date or fully comprehensive.
The current situation isn't very good at giving players information that they can use. A possible fix would be the addition of the "Cookbook." When held in the inventory, crafting a variation of a food recipe adds that variation to the cookbook. So if you have previously crafted raisin butter-cakes using all 4 combinations of butter/flour, you would be able to pull up the recipe in the cookbook and look at how the different ingredients change the feps given for each of the 4 variations. Players would still have to experiment with different ingredients to find the different recipe variations, but now the game would automatically show you those variations after you discover them, rather than the player having to create their own spreadsheet. Perhaps it would also allow the user to eventually select which variation they want to make from the cookbook itself, and allow players to share their recipes with other players. At the very least, players need to be better presented with more accurate information.
