use tool when its not equipt and its in your inventory.

Since many can agree that inventory is small and certain items take up the hands of the character to expand your inventory preventing you from using a tool, because then it would make your inventory smaller.
So my suggestion is to be able to use the tool as long it is in your inventory.
For example if you have traveller's sack in your both hands, you still would be able to use your axe in your invenotry to chop things or other things that require an axe.
What do you guys think, wouldn't it make our life easier when we are travelling a long distance, like for example questing and running into issue of having inventory too small, because you just need to have that axe equipped or that fishing rod.

But belts have limited space. while in the inventory you would have axe, bonesaw and fishing rod. So my suggestion is that to be able to use them when they are in your inventory.

an exquisite belt holds like 4 spaces, which is quite a bit, while the troll belt holds a whopping 9. More then enough space for all your equipment.

Currently, toolbelts exist as goal/reward for progressing the game. Wouldn't change.

I would be in favor of inventory expanders being drop-able (including their contents, which they would retain) as long as no items intersect the borders (between the normal and their expand inventory). When picking them up again they would force a re-equip, in case other expanders have been dropped in the meantime the no longer fitting items are spilled onto the ground.

This would enable to set aside traveler sacks (et al.) for the duration of a task.

But then what would a belt do?
Total misplay.

The way I see it, when travelling and I need to use the axe, I unequip sack, maybe drop some things to make room, finish task, reequip bag and pick up items. Auto equipping tools from inv does the same thing just not as big a pain in the ass? Tool belts allow auto equip only if inv is empty enough.

That's a nice idea.

However, I foresee someone coming to the forums saying they weren't aware they dropped their sack and now it's gone.

We can't have nice things.

The 'missing the tsack with contents' might satisfy the sadism of two certain trolls even better than the current juggling with stuff, so we might actually see it ;)
