Mappable Realms

Postby LostJustice » Fri Nov 16, 2018 12:05 am

This is a feature that is direly needed for larger realms. Right now, realms just expand and if they get large enough like HH then the borders are hard to keep track of, if not impossible. Especially with it expanding every day. So the suggestion is add a realm authority action where you can request a realm map. It acts like coffer where it requires authority to obtain the realm map and the map does not show tiles, it only shows point where the authority request was requested, the points of cairns and other realm objects in relation to the request point, and the regions that these color. Just a simple colorized, spatial map so it is possible to find borders, see the size of the realm, and see where there are gaps in the realm.

wasnt there a map in legacy you could make? i dont honestly remember at this point. Perhaps this could tie into that sort of thing. Mapping out the area in game.

Yes, and it required parchment, quills (feathers), and the defunct inkweed to make ink.

But of course, due to this:

Said maps would be completely outdated quickly. Though there might be something to make it easier to track such things, the old maps probably aren't the solution (and kind of redundant with the in-game map feature, though it has been asked to bring them back as a way to share those maps, but that's another thread.)

We could use at least a special building per realm, something like a tactical table with maps that would show the world and the area covered by your own realm, the position of your border cairns and nearby borders or just the area covered by your own realms would be nice already.

Yeah and just buildable by the king of course...

I am fine with any solution, would honestly just like to see where borders are especially since when a hermit asks hey can you cover me, I know where the closest cairn is. Sometimes I spend an hour or more just trying to figure out cairn placement. And especially with the public chat, a lot of people want to be in this chat but sometimes it just hard trying to figure out how to cover them and they can't really be part of the community because of that.

Or just have less ridiculous realm shapes. Make realm upkeep scale with border length rather than number of cairns.

Are any of the realms having issue with upkeep, though? Would this solve the problem you see here, or just slightly slow down the rate at which realms can grow their community watering hole?

Increase upkeep then. Realms shouldn't stretch over the world from end to end.

The have been suggestions that the upkeep shouldn't be virtual (XP generated) but in hard currency (items) that need to be applied to the cairns.

Make it where EXPerience doesnt raise Realm auth but instead a percentage of Auth gained by villages in the realms borders. Each banner has its own "Auth" amount which can only be filled by villages near it.
