One of the Best combat Ideas EVER!!

Postby blank » Mon Nov 26, 2018 5:42 pm

Okay so I've been doing some thinking and here it is..

right now everyone rushes to plate armor as fast as they can, why? thats a dumb question. BECAUSE IT GIVES THE BEST AC?

Here is my suggestion
make it so heavy plate or High AC depletes stamina faster
It doesn't make much sense that a guy in full plate drains stamina just as fast as someone in full leather or other light armors like chain mail.

thats the first idea.

my next suggestion has a little to do with marksmen.
not only should plate mail deplete stamina faster but it should also give you a debuff to MM (as in a -number)

why?? because no one ever goes out to battle with a bow and full plate mail... sorry, thats not realistic.

In the end. this will force players to choose their equipment per how they want to play.

we have all these cool armors but whats the point if there isnt any penalty to wearing them, it instantly makes leather, chain, ect obsolete because the ac they give is just complete shit compared to steel.

let me know what you guys think :D

Stamina drain on armor would make steel armor completely unusable.

Debuff to MM would be a nice nerf to archery, but doesn't change the fact that they're untouchable to melee guys. Good archers would just raise MM to counter any debuff. Would make shitty archer alts less of a problem though, so I like that.

Archery would still be completely broken though.

I think the good scenario of this would be that:

Some people choose to wear full plate, arrows almost cannot harm them, they run slower over long distance because of stamina drain
Some people choose to wear lighter armor, they are dangerous to full plate people because they can easily outmaneuver full plate guys, or run away, but are vulnurable to arrows
Some people choose bows, they cannot really harm the full plate guys, but are really dangerous to the light armored guys

The full armor guys would make sense for protecting or attacking objectives, but not so much for ganking players:
For example, we have team A and B, team A wants to destroy team B's catapults, so they send out a bunch of full plate guys who cannot be harmed from archers to destroy them. It means that team B either has to have their own full plate warriors, or better yet some light armor ones that can ourmaneuver and single out some full plated guys who are standing out of position. This gives reason for team A to have some archers to shoot the light armored units of team B. And team B could have their own archers shooting on team A's archers, where then team A would need light armored fighters to catch team B's archers.

In ganking scenario's the full plate guys would be pretty useless, because both archers and light armored people have nothing to fear from them, they can just run away. Here the bow guys would probably be too strong unless the light armored fighters have a speed advantage over the bows.

i had a similar idea a while back.

you have basically 3 types of weapons - battleaxe, sword + shield, bow. the bottom line is that each type of warrior would be effective against one other type and weak against the other. sort of a rock-paper-scissors thing, to encourage group battles and keep one specific combat loadout from being the top dog.

it would go a little something like this:

axemen are effective against swordsmen (can cleave shields easily and break defense), but weak to archers (difficult to evade arrows coming at them)
swordsmen are effective against archers (can block arrows with their shield) but weak against axemen
archers are effective against axemen but weak against swordsmen

it would need a bit further development, such as axemen have a chance to dodge arrows, swordsmen have a chance to block axes, and archers have a chance to shoot past shields - at least this way, making combat effective characters would require a bit more planning than just making 2 types of cheese

I don't think rock-paper-scissors is effective for pvp in a game where you have to spend hundreds of hours raising a character, this isn't pokemon. I feel it would just turn fights into constant alt-swapping.

you're right, everyone having the exact same equipment and style of fighting is a much better system

Not to mention, one of the biggest problems I see with the current system is that there is no difference between the current openings. It doesn't matter which color you open as long as you have an attack in that color, so you just end up with everyone using the easiest opening.

I was thinking about a rock-paper-scissors style fighting system recently too, but mine was based around three different melee attack types: crushing, piercing and slashing. For instance, a club would be crushing, a spear would be piercing and an axe would be slashing. Crushing would beat slashing, piercing would beat crushing and slashing would beat piercing. Also, while the weapons I listed would be the "pure" weapons, used specifically for one type of attack, other weapons be "mixed". For instance, a sword would be half piercing, half slashing, and would be able to do attacks of both types, but with only half the effectiveness of a "pure" weapon.

I've never been involved in combat though, so I don't expect my idea to be any good.
