They could give some survival, and work as some additional early game boots.

Could add back in the "Thorny Foot" damage from running around barefoot early game, even add in an "Infected Foot Wound", making finding and crafting foot wear a priority again early game.

With exception that I would assume thorn in a foot being much worse than it was in legacy and that You could start with clogs and losnig them, getting thorn was a lil tiny bit punishment.
