I'd like to imagine questing will be one of the primary ways of advancing your character early on. Because it is noobies (not those with knarrs) who are dependent on this, it's counter intuitive.

You are not forced in any way to complete every single quest you're given though, so I really don't see what's the issue. Worst case if that is your first or your only quest, but you can just abandon it and get a new one in a reasonable time span.
