Field crop quality averaging makes me want to bot farming

Postby Granger » Sat Mar 02, 2019 11:29 am

The quality averaging of crops in a field was introduced as a band-aid to work around the problems that tri-quality brought, as with per-crop quality ranomness the possibly permutations lead to the seeds not stacking reasonably.

Now with tri-quality being gone for quite some time and that particular band-aid no longer being needed... rid us of this motivation to run a farm bot.

Please? I don't want to nag you regarding this as I had to with the combat initiation delay band-aid...

I'm not sure what kind of "quality averaging" you speak of. I can't think of any mechanic to that effect.

I'm not a huge fan of going back to seed sorting namely because it stops letting you harvest into buckets.

F* seed sorting, though.

I do not understand the current system. As far as I have understood you will get different change in quality depending of time of day you plant it. It will range from -2 to +5.
If I always plant in the evening will I alway get the same result?

And sorting seeds didn't make you want to farm bot?

Alt+Tab

I find the extra time is worth not needing to pay attention and do additional UI manipulation. I'm very "lazy" due to chronic pain from wrist damage, anything that reduces how much I need to manage inventories the better.

Need to save up what pain I can take for shitposting in C&I

When you plant you get a roll -2>+5 (I think it's -5>+5 if you hit the "crop quality field" for that area). There's planting windows of 5 hours where all seeds planted in that time (of the same crop) get the same roll. Time of day doesn't matter, the times just come in batches so you have time to plant a whole field and get them the same quality roll.

Minmaxing involves multiple farm locations (or gigantic towns) and multiple plants per day to roll multiple windows. It feels good to be a casual or normal farmer, but some people find it frustrating to minmax farming in this system.
