was gonna do a big ass writeup in honor of my 3000th postings and then sevenless told me the wise words of keep it simple stupid or nobody gets past the first paragraph

so basically, points i was going to present:
  • the ore is far too regional this world it seems
  • minehole costs (which i was going to compile and put on the wiki but i cant be bothered) asking for specific ores/stones is a dick move (im gated behind black ore that i literally do not have out of the entire couple cave systems ive pinged l4 -> l5)
  • occasionally i find *bloodstone veins* (on l3 for reference) that are merely 20-30 tiles large max which is inadequate in response to how much i need for the spiraling now
  • ore quality is so unreasonably irrational that its not even fun to deal with right now. some of the best ore i've found was on layer 2 and i'm on layer 5 now come on??? but hey my average rock is better ql i guess
  • mining strength math seems to be too annoying in that your pick is a huge huge huge huge huge influence once your strength is about double your pick ql, so really i gotta wait a month or two for trees to catch up to metal?

if mine supports still sucked like they did AND it was like this i wouldn't have bothered beyond two weeks ago, but now that kebab nerf hit and its a pain in the cock to level my str again the conventional way because the game doesnt want me to play it thru satiations/hunger i'm just in suffering hell.

but hey at least i have close to 40 galena nodes prospected across all my cave layers so im bathing in crappy silver right guys??? can't find any meaningful quantity of iron but i sure got that tin and galena

as someone who literally only plays to mine it really fucking sucks that im having the life drained out of me by this. 10 layers means nothing when you just take all the good shit from the old ones and space it out.

player counts are telling us the opposite, its clearly correlating with the decreased ores!
better reduce the ore veins further for the next world and see the player count explode!

yeah lets make sure the tin and copper ores spawn at least 1 supergrid apart too

Rather than a critique to the mining system, this whole post seems like a rant about not being able to get everything immediately.

The only thing that I believe should be changed about the current mining system, is the cost of mineholes. And not because lower levels require specific stuff (I think that's great, it's a good way to slow down mining below 3rd level and a good incentive to trade if you don't have such ores/stones), but because of the hardened leather.

Let's face it, the world has been up for over a month now, and anything made out of hardened leather is being overlooked in order to make deeper and deeper mines. It's not even a choice anymore, you're forced into it if you want to avoid falling too far behind everyone else.
So either removing or lowering the cost in hardened leather, or change other items requiring it, is the only thing I think should be done about how mining works now.

People play games because they are not satisfied with the rewarding-system of real life. They want easy rewards quickly.
If the game becomes too harsh, people might start doing something else than play the game. And thats not what we want!

The only thing I really agree on is ore quality being way too random. I have better quality nodes closer to the surface than I do on lower levels.

Even single tiles vary to an absurd degree. I got q74 stone from the same tile i got q101 stone from.

I am still on lvl 1 mine 60 str q45 pickaxe and i have understructible block that i can't get past while all other next to it break within 2 hits.... + i can have q12 iron node right next to q50 stones which really sucks. Another thing that does my nut is are the 1 block ore veins you literally spend half ur energy bar to reach a block of cassiterite that will give you maybe few ores before it breaks revealing some olivine behind it.... I do appreciate the scarcity of metal as it makes trading more interesting HOWEVER when people ask for an arm and a leg for a stack of copper while you are just a hermit and they have a vill with everything you need to ask urself is it even worth it?

Ore regionality and specific ore requirements (mostly because of regionality) are definitely the big ones imo. Anyone short of a power faction can get dicked over really easily with bad luck.

Super mega BUMP.

Sick and tired of these ores being WAAAY over localized. I have shit you not, found 12-14 tin nodes and 4 galena nodes. 0 iron ochre, 0 heavy earth, 0 chalcopyrite, 0 bloodstone, 0 black ore 0(ANY GOLD), 0 (ANY OTHER SILVER), 0 gems.
What i've wasted: at least 200 charges of q48 rustroots, my feps for the upcoming weeks, 50-60 mine supports ( OF COURSE MADE WITH TIN ), 100's of liters of good q water, time, energy and all the materials for the mineholes.

Can edit: Rock hardness if so incredibly random it's not even funny. There are rocks i can absolutely PLOW through on mine level 3. Insta hourglass. Then the next rock I can't even scratch. Good job.
