Underground minimap fog of war

One of the exciting things about mining is the element of surprise and the exploration of the unknown. I think it takes some of the fun out of it when you can instantly see all the nearby cave systems as soon as you go down a minehole. It's also quite abusable when you can hop into a cave near a village to see what their underground setup looks like and mine directly to it

I dont know how difficult it would be to implement but a minimap fog of war would be nice where map is darkened unless you have already discovered that area

I already dislike how you can just go around in any cave on any level without even a torch to make light. The caves are way too bright, and with custom clients u can just get daylight in it...

So yes, I agree anything that makes underground life feel more like exploring and less like looking at a map is ok with me!

Personally I would bring back the old map making system from legacy. that was fun!

i believe a general fog of war would be a great addition to the game, and more so one for caves. Though we have been asking for darkness in caves for a uber long time, id like to think this would fit hand in hand with this idea.

Honestly? I hate the new cave systems. I'm no power miner, but I've put in a couple hundred hours into it over the worlds. I've been debating it, and I'm starting to think I'd rather see cave systems sub level 1 as special instances that you find entrances to. Like burrows/dungeons. No mining inside, just the specialized resources/foraging/extra mob spawn.

As they are right now you never really get to dig some proper tunnels. You just poke cave walls forever, prospect tunneling is basically wasting your time. I know it's bottable, but hard work digging out something that is your achievement was kind of a neat thing for mining that the frequency of caves has killed off.

I agree with the same views others have mentioned in this thread. The underground could use some more mysteriousness.

It is currently way too easy to see other peoples cave systems

I agree with every sentiment in this thread, even Sevenless's. When I heard there were going to be caves on the lower levels, I never imagined them to be so prevalent.

Also, I'd like to see it be impossible to mine under deep oceans, not just deeper oceans.
