Towercaps

Make towercaps grow either the same speed as regular trees in forest biome or possibly 1.5x/double.
I did some extensive research on it

and yes mushroom grow fast.

It would make an organic alternative to building mine supports all over the place and make them actually viable as a tree source.

+1
I like the idea of them growing faster, making them more likely to be used instead of supports. But let's consider that those give wood, so can't grow at double the speed of other trees, or it would become the only useful tree for quality farming (even if it doesn't give many logs, you could raise quality way faster)

Towercaps could have a general reduced quality (compared to the quality formula of normal trees) to allow for faster growth.

6 days to get from a button to a dinner plate size, how much longer to get from dinner plate size to bigger than you?

Fully grown softwood trees on the bottom end weigh around 900kg
From a 1kg mushroom tree sapling it would then take 5400 days if the growth speed is same.

Really?

I like that although it limits people creating stuff from that exact wood type so maybe just leave it at normal tree growth and possibly include the random quick grow spots like the rest of the trees have.

Most trees used for design through variable materials are only grown in quantity and only in case these can not taken as Q10 from the wilderness... Lower quality for towercaps wouldn't matter, IMHO.

Knarrs and cheese racks are just the first two which come to mind in terms that most people would care both about quality and looks. And towercaps are quite interesting both in internal and especially external color. I wouldn't say it wouldn't matter.

There are sketches, IIRC these are quite cheap to use to change a variable material slot. I would suspect quality Knarrs not being build out of the variable materials but from the standard high quality wood and later recoloured to the wanted design anyway.

But should those be enforced by more game mechanics other than impossible primary-secondary-tertiary combinations and toxic clothes?

I don't think mine is total crap (q53) and half of the materials used weren't changed and were purposefully grown from the beginning of the world. I have no problems using sketches, but I don't use them all the time just because I can. Achieving the same result by ingame means feels more fun. I suspect I am not alone in that. :)

And then there are cheese racks. The thread about them shows quite clearly that people care how they look. And towercap bark is the closest to white color we can get.
