Ochs naming

Postby Ganhart » Wed Apr 10, 2019 4:37 pm

Herder credo sometimes asks you to "Flay an Ochs". Basically it asks you to flay a domesticated cow, but is it really needs to be named so strange that even google translate don't know this word?

Can this kind of task be reformulated so people stop being confused about it asking "wtf is ochs?" literally everyday on chats?

From Wiktionnary:
From Middle English oxe, from Old English oxa, from Proto-Germanic *uhsô (compare West Frisian okse, Dutch os, German Ochse),[...]

Emphasis added.

I'm not sure of the source of this particular spelling. i can't seem to find it anywhere other than as a Germanic surname specifically mentioned on Ancestry.com, but then I'm not searching that hard, either.

I think we just need to spread the knowledge a bit. I happen to like this bit of "history" in the game.

Agreed, it doesn't need to be changed, people need to take it as a learning opportunity.

Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

It is also possible to write each task in different languages, including the disappeared and fictional. Let people learn. Or do not write at all - let them guess.

I think the instructions for credos should be written in russian since the majority of the playerbase is russian anyways. Everyone else can take it as a learning opportunity

Aurochs are wild cows. Ochs are tamed cows. At least that's how credo quests refer to those. I agree it's confusing. But I also find a certain charm in such language. Would be good to have an extended quest description or maybe some sort of in-game dictionary to solve the confusing part.

Edit: To be completely fair, all herder quests are revolving around tamed animals, so it might be not as confusing as it looks at the first glance...

Then what is the charm and what is the point of entangling?

The charming text is left as it is. Extended description would be available separately for those dimwits who can't figure it out. Win-win. :)
