How to fix gardener now

Postby Zentetsuken » Wed Jul 10, 2019 9:28 pm

Super simple idea that would make gardener now still totally worthwhile.

Make it so most, if not all current crops can be planted in a gardening pot.

Potential changes could be that the plant grows faster but has a slightly, slightly smaller chance of getting a quality boost or something. OR grow slower but have a higher chance and yield more than a ground-planted variant. So many options here.

This could also be a fun opportunity to change the mechanics of some crops a little bit too. It stands to reason that if you are growing something in a small pot that you are babying it more and taking better care of it, giving it high quality soil and water. Perhaps the idea of creating cultivars could sneak in to play here.

Example, when a carrot >q100 is grown in a pot it has a .01% chance of one of its harvested carrots being harvested as a "white carrot" variant. Perhaps this "white carrot" variant has absolutely zero use beyond mulch/animal feed but you can continue to grow them in garden pots and raise the q, and a "white carrot" >q150 has a .01% chance of having one of its harvested carrots being harvested as a Daikon or a Parsnip. This would be a totally new vegetable with actual recipes and new feps that can continue to be planted like normal.

Another super simple idea would be just adding new parts to existing vegetables. Maybe an onion grown in a pot can be harvested as an onion, or if you leave it a bit longer you get a new option like "trim" and you just get "green onion stalk" a new onion variant or spice with new feps and shit, and the onion will remain in the pot at the same quality and need more water.

EDIT: forgot to mention, maybe these new harvesting and cultivating abilities are obviously unlocked in the gardener tree.

I'd be reasonable to be able to grow most any crop in a pot, I agree.

It'd be reasonable if stuff in pots didn't grow underground at all, but if we make minor changes to them the forums explode in rage.

I think we would be ok with it if some stuff like troll mushrooms were still possible to grow underground. Underground exclusive stuff is always fun.

If by minor change you mean breaking its kneecaps then sure

Mushrooms, cave bulbs, things that do not require direct sunlight should in my opinion be indoors or underground, Most fungi do not survive long in direct sunlight, things that would do poorly in a dark setting, should not grow in these enviroments. yes many would complain that they have to split their fields of pots to different locations, but at least it is reasonable. I will not speak of the other incident as that is closed for now.

One thing I have found is that if any changes are mid world, they need to look positive and add options, or imply they will in the long run. This means the simple way to do it cant work, cause its well rage quit worthy of doing things. A change needs to add new content while ahem fixing older content at the same time. Which is more more work then hitting something with the nerf bat. J&L and use as a crew, are not big like blizzard, it means finding ways to reach said goal and feel postie while doing it. With out the feeling of breaking kneecaps. When kingdom came out it attracted a few back that world. When credos came back a bunch of people suddenly spiked. Those levek of magic need to be found and harnessed as much as possible.

I try and suggest things when I can on here one way or another that tries to fit that goal. The hardest point is trying to flow with the devs and not sound like I am foaming at the mouth. Well best to save the foaming till when they crossed even a very loose line (the scholar credo being one such moment when it first came out).

How this affects gardening and foraging, step one right now is to think, lets be creative how can we do this and have fun with it. Like planting boxes for flowers, mushrom trays (so they would function kinda of like cheese but mushrooms, and cave bulbs), strawberry pots for strawberries, and the current garden pots mainly for spices. This leaves a few lose ends. But opens much more flavor and all, while not feeling like someone got there knees caps knocked out. Plus it could open more credos if so wished in the long run. Sole it one way so we can get more options possibly later. But I know nothing as I am not a PVP and since legacy that 5% of the player base is what seems to know best...................

There are only two possible outcomes for putting normal crops into pots: either op and farming is dead or noone will use it.

Not very thoroughly thought idea, but for the sake of brainstorming...
1. Make pots not raising Q, only capping it, but increase quantity gathered. To 3-5 maybe.
2. Increase Q of wild forageables, but decrease spawn rate.

Rework spawn of forageables later. I hope this can be done without wiping the world.
